July: Vacations, barbecues, long lazy evenings and cold treats on hot, steamy days ... ah, summer.

Vacations, barbecues, long lazy evenings and cold treats on hot, steamy days ... ah, summer. Happy 4th of July!

Just the facts ...

President Bill Clinton signed into law a resolution to mark the fourth Sunday of July as Parents' Day. While Parents' Day is a national observance day, it is not a holiday.

Independence Day was first celebrated in Philadelphia on July 8, 1776. The Liberty Bell tolled to gather citizens to hear the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence.

The 4th of July was not declared a federal holiday until 1941.

Congress approved the wording of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, but it is believed the document was actually signed almost a month later.

Also in July ...

Independence Day — July 4

Cow Appreciation Day — July 15

Establishment of the District of Columbia — July 16

Parents' Day — July 22

World Hepatitis Day — July 28

National Ice Cream Month — July

UV Safety Month — July

Juvenile Arthritis Awareness Month — July
