The 39 Steps

April 12-21

Prescott Center for the Arts

208 N. Marina St., Prescott

The play's concept calls for the entirety of the 1935 adventure film The 39 Steps to be performed nearly verbatim onstage, but with a cast of four. One actor plays the hero, Richard Hannay, an actress plays the three women with whom he has romantic entanglements, and two other actors play every other character in the show: heroes, villains, men, women, children and even the occasional inanimate object.

This often requires lightning fast quick changes and occasionally for them to play multiple characters at once. Thus the film's serious spy story is played mainly for laughs, and the script is full of allusions to (and puns on the titles of) other Alfred Hitchcock films, including Rear Window, Psycho and North by Northwest.

April 12-14 & 19-21: 7:30 pm
April 15 & 21: 2:00 pm

Chalk it Up! Prescott

April 21 & 22

Foothills Bank Plaza
, 10:00 am

201 N. Montezuma St., Prescott

Last year, more than 900 artists created some fantastic art, drawing more than 1,000 spectators to watch them work.

This free, family-friendly event is intended to cultivate and support the creativity in people of all ages and abilities. Participants get their own four-foot by four-foot space and a box of 12 pastel chalks for their creation (you may supply your own chalk as well, but only if it is water-based).

If you are the ambitious sort and would like a larger space in which to unleash your muse, then call Sharon at 928-308-8762 (or email info@prescottchalkart.com) to preregister. Everyone is welcome. 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Whiskey Off-Road Mountain Bike Race

April 27-29

Various Prescott locations

The challenging course, festival atmosphere and superb organization of "the Whiskey" attract a large number of riders, supporters and spectators. This year the popular bike race offers a $30,000 cash purse. Online and snail-mail registration forms can be found at http://epicrides.com/wor/wor.htm.

Amateur athletes and kids will enjoy their choice of graduated distance options including a 15 Proof, 25 Proof, 50 Proof or 2 Proof kids course (1 proof = 1 mile). All events will start and finish in the center of downtown Prescott on Whiskey Row (the 100 block of South Montezuma Street).

Back by popular demand--after a year's hiatus--are Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers to headline the live entertainment. With style edges from reggae to mariachi, you'll want to kick off your shoes and dance on the Courthouse Plaza lawn with a few thousand happy rockers. Just bring two canned goods for donation to the Yavapai County Food Bank and enjoy the beer gardens provided by New Belgium Brewing.

In addition to the mountain bike 'happenings', event attendees will have 3 awesome days of opportunity to soak up mountain bike culture amongst downtown Prescott's fine establishments including a large assortment of locally owned and operated bars, breweries, coffee shops, restaurants, art galleries, flowing streams, elm tree canopies and the sprawling Courthouse Plaza lawn.
